We don't even have "skill gates" for progression or ship ownership. If you haven't figured this out yet, this game isn't a " meritocracy" nor is it skill based. Technically, if I were to guess (since our host hasn't ever released any of the code by which our MM actually works), I'd say that the only thing the MM considers is ship types and tiers. WG actually does try to cater more to newer players. As for player experience, well the good news for you is that a lot of more experienced players have left the game because WG made decisions that didn't match what they were wanting. It also does have a tier safeguard built in that guarantees after 20 battles at a tier that you will no longer be the bottom tier more than 40% of the time. The current version, as random as it is, actually doesn't burn people out nearly as quickly. To further expand on what Ahskance already said, the matchmaker is very random by design, because in a truly skill based matchmaker, the parity becomes so balanced that a game will become mentally fatiguing, causing frequent cases of player burnout. Ppl have 5000 games played on a ship going against ppl who just started playing and are up tierd by 2 lvls … how does that ever make sense How is it possible to have such bad match making ? It’s easily one of the best games I’ve ever played for graphics and attention to detail with ships and weapons but then at the same time is maybe one of the worst games I’ve played when it comes to match making.
